@Hanna The spot after The Voice’s super-high ratings gives a boost to new shows. They are moving The Blacklist to Thursdays because they think it has developed its own strong viewership that will follow it to the new time slot. That lets them use the coveted Monday slot for State of Affairs.
@BC If you think of it as Zoë being sacrificed to protect Liz, who he says is ‘one of the few things he still holds dear,’ it changes they dynamic. Also, Red wants to end the “war” Berlin has started against him, which has claimed many lives, and find out who started the false story. That is a greater good. Remember, Red promised to prevail over the “Alliance” when it would not support him. This opens the chance for a counter-alliance with Berlin.
Zoë told Red of her feelings toward her father only after Red had already slipped her the sleeping drug. He was clearly pained to hear that and said “I will not hurt you.” I love that scene: rewatch it if you can. I got the feeling Red was assuming some responsibility to protect her if things go sour with her father. I wonder what the circumstances were that separated Zoë from her father. Also, she is in her early to mid-thirties; she’s a big girl. Berlin missed her. Maybe he will change as the result of having her back.
@Latrobe Definitely need an electric Kool-Aid anchovy test.
@MartinMRey “spanking”?
@SS Peter Stromare was contracted for four episodes, but there’s no reason they couldn’t sign him up for more.
@WendyWales In the notes on the script for the pilot, it says Naomi held vigils when Red disappeared.
@Jax Too bad they don’t do DNA tests on this show. Still, Berlin recognized his daughter & she recognized him.
@Sally Naomi said that the FBI suspected her of “it.” I wonder was “it” was – Red’s disappearance? Red’s starting to reveal govt secrets? ‘Bloody Christmas’? Big unanswered questions.
@Richard Re: Liz & Tom: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”
@Marcell Red should kill off Berlin for Zoë and/or Tom for Liz, if either needs killing. Just sayin’.
@LukeWarm 3) Product idea: James Spader bobblehead ➔ head doesn’t bobble.
4) “My hunch still is that [Red] is the only truly principled character in the bunch. Yes, his profession requires flexible ethics but I think his motivations are oddly pure and Dembe’s loyalty to him proves that . . .to me, anyway.” I totally agree, though I think we’re in the minority on this blog…
@Richard Naomi always seems to say “my daughter” and not “our daughter.” When Liz tells Red to leave Jennifer alone, Red says “Who said she’s my daughter?” Also, he lets Zoë know he is on speaking terms with his own daughter, but “it’s complicated.” As far as we know, Red has not even started searching for Jennifer yet. With Berlin defanged, it’s not clear he needs to.
