(Includes other as yet unnumbered bad guys. These guys are “bad” from Red’s point of view. Not included are most of Red’s associates.
(Plus … Is Red really not Liz’s father?)

Added at end: 🔻Index of Blacklister Numbers by Episode Chronology (w IMDb Viewer Ratings)

Note: I started with the list from The Blacklist Support Group back in 2015 http://bit.ly/1ir4Ljx and have added to it. I began an additional list of unnumbered “bad guys” to cover evil-doers (like Floriana Campo, Laurel Hitchin and Neville Townsend) who were involved in crimes but did not get assigned a Blacklist number.

Peter Stormare as Berlin, Jennifer Ehle as Madeline Pratt, Fisher Stevens as Marvin Gerard, Tim Noonan as Stanley Kornish (aka The Stewmaker), Paul Rubens as Mr Vargas, David Strathaim as The Director, Edi Gathegi as Mr Solomon, Alan Alda as Alan Fitch (aka The Decembrist), Krysten Ritter as Nora/Rowan Mills (aka Lord Baltimore) and Ron Perlman as Luther Braxton

Status of Blacklisters/Bad Guys indicated as “arrested” ~ may be back in S10? I also put X’s by a few others who are free but may need watching (eg serial killer/therapist Sharon Fulton, Anne Foster’s best friend Lois). There are likely others.

⭕ Blacklisters

Note: With the exception of some flashbacks, most references to “Katarina Rostova” (played by the older actress Laila Robins) were actually a character whose real name is Tatiana Petrova impersonating Liz’s mother Katarina Rostova, according to the story told in Episode 8:21 Nachalo. This includes most episodes in Seasons 7 and 8. Making this change in the descriptions of these episodes would be too confusing and there’s a slight chance this will be reversed in Season 9 since the story in 8:21 Nachalo is a dream-like exposition told from Red’s perspective.

Episodes without Blacklister Numbers

(Chronological)
# – [Episode 3:19] Cape May – Unnumbered. Backstory and Katarina “Ghost Story.” Still in an opium fog, Red visits the site of Katarina’s disappearance, imagines himself saving her from drowning, and talks to a phantasm of her as she is hunted.
# – [Episode 6:19] 📗 Rassvet – Unnumbered; A tale told by Dom to Liz about Red and Katarina’s backstory; “The death and birth of Raymond Reddington” ~ Entertainment Weekly
# – [Episode 4:17] Requiem – Unnumbered; Mr Kaplan’s (Katherine Nemec’s) backstory with insights into Katarina Rostova’s life as an intelligence operative and her relationship with a young Raymond Reddington
# – [Episode 5:9] Ruin – Unnumbered; Liz retreats to Alaska to find herself after Tom’s death, but finds she can’t escape trouble.
# – [Episode 7:4] 📙 Kuwait – Unnumbered; Cooper is confronted by a Naval Intelligence lieutenant he left for dead after an ambush in 1989. See Daniel Hutton (“The Samoon”) under Unnumbered Bad Guys.
# – [Episode 7:17] 📙 Brothers – Unnumbered; In this background episode, Ressler reunites with his brother Robby to move the corpse of the dirty cop who killed their father. As a teenager, Ressler overheard the cop, Tommy Markin, admit to the crime, tracked him down and shot him. Robby later finished him off and buried him. Liz helped out by “disappearing” the body from the trunk of their car just before suspicious agents checked it out.
# – [Episode 8:3] 📓16 Ounces – Unnumbered. The “16 ounces” is the amount of the plastic explosive Semtex that Liz obtained illicitly by forging Aram’s signature on a requisition form. She tried twice to blow Red up with it as revenge for killing her mother, Katarina Rostova (Blacklister #3) in Episode 8:2, the second time with help from Esi Jackson (see Unnumbered). To save her from herself (and himself from her) Red offered Cooper a proposal: “putting Elizabeth Keen at the top of the Blacklist.”
# – [Episode 8:13] 📓 Anne – Unnumbered. Anne is Anne Foster, an attractive, recently widowed 52-year old Black woman who Red met in a park in New York City. She was an avid theater fan and birdwatcher. Despite Dembe’s concerns, the relationship grew into a full-blown love affair, although Anne knew little about Red – until this episode. Red’s life exploded suddenly into Anne’s when Neville Townsend (who has aligned with Liz) and his mercenaries show up in Anne’s quiet home town. Red and Anne took refuge in the police station where Anne’s best friend is an officer. Despite most of the police force being killed, Red and Anne escaped – until Liz shows up at Anne’s house and captured her.
# – [Episode 8:14] 📓 Misère – Unnumbered. Aka Misere. (Misère is a card play in which you win by losing); This episode shows Liz’s point of view during the recent episodes in which she has not appeared. It focuses on ‘how low she will go’ in seeking revenge on Red for killing her mother, Katarina Rostova (Blacklister #3) [in Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova, Part 2]. She has two coaches: 1) Her collaborator Neville Townsend, the man who put a bounty on Katarina’s head thinking she (and not Red) was the mysterious operative N-13 responsible for the death of his family. And 2) an Apparition of Mr Kate Kaplan who often appears at her side. Kaplan’s appearances suggest Liz is going insane. Both Townsend and Kaplan counsel Liz to be utterly ruthless, but she cannot be. She cannot shoot Red in the final scene; but she fought and pushed Red’s lover Anne when Anne tried to knock Liz’s gun away, resulting in Anne falling and hitting her head on a table. Anne’s death was confirmed in Episode 8:15, when Red paid a visit to Anne’s daughter.
# – [Episode 8:15] 📓 The Russian Knot – Unnumbered; The Russian Knot is an encryption/decryption machine dating back to the Soviet Union. Knowing (or fearing) that Liz would find evidence among her mother’s things that he was using the machine to talk to sources in Russia, Red convinced Cooper to use the team to retrieve the surviving device from a museum in Minsk. The FBI Team got there at the same time as Liz and crew. Liz would have had to shoot Ressler to get the cipher machine, which she couldn’t bring herself to do, so the FBI got it. Red had convinced Cooper that Liz was using the machine to talk to Townsend. In truth, she wanted it to prove he was N-13. She and Ressler use the machine to decipher a message that proves Red is playing Cooper. But Cooper has let Red take the machine, leaving Liz and Ressler with no way to prove to him they are right.
# – [Episode 8:21] 📓 Nachalo – Unnumbered; Nachalo means “The Beginning” in Russian. Red spirited Liz off In Latvia, where Red took Liz to the “epicenter” of his operation located in a Cold War-era bunker outside of Riga. Red admitted to Liz that he is N-13, the operative who acquired the Sikorsky Archive, the 13 packets of classified information taken from the KGB files when the Soviet Union fell. This information was the “seed” from which Red’s global operation grew. This operation, Red tells Liz, has two purposes: to keep Liz safe and her mother hidden. He insists he is ‘not a Russian asset and Ivan Stepanov is just an old friend.’ In a story told by Red and narrated by Katarina, Ilya Koslov and others, Katarina and Ilya “created” Red because Katarina didn’t want Liz to bear the burden of having killed her father; and so that Red could keep a protective eye on Liz. So Katarina and Ilya “resurrected” the identity of Raymond Reddington. But someone went under the knife to have plastic surgery and it’s not clear who. There are even hints that it might have been Katarina herself, which would solve two problems: who Red is and where Katarina went. But – wow. … In the end, reality ended Red’s story telling. Liz was shot through the upper abdomen in a hail of gunfire as Neville Townsend’s men raided the facility. Red, Liz and Dembe were able to retreat to a super-hardened “Nest” beneath the bunker. The Nest is capable of withstanding a 20 megaton nuclear blast. It’s also equipped with the means of incinerating intruders above. So, Townsend is toast – but his henchman Vandyke was outside of the bunker and will likely be seen again.
# – [Episode 8:22] 📓 Konets – Unnumbered; Konets means “The Ending” in Russian. In 8:22 Konets, Red told Liz he had a letter from her mother that provided the answers to her questions about his identity and what had happened to her mother, but he would only let her have the letter under one condition: that she shoot him and take over his empire. He wanted her to do it on the street where “the world” would see the evidence and her stature and criminality would be established. Liz agreed to do it. But, at the last minute, Liz balked and despite encouragement from Red, she couldn’t bring herself to shoot him. Then she(!) was shot – by Vandyke, Townsend’s right-hand man who shared Townsend’s desire for Red to witness Liz’s death. Red then shot Vandyke, but Liz’s wound was mortal. Liz died in Red’s arms; but not before a montage in which Liz recalled those she loved, ending with scenes of Red juxtaposed with scenes of her mother. Then her mother’s visage faded into her own and all faded to whiteness. Red realized she had died and hugged her. Then the image of Katarina kissing the newborn Masha (Liz) was paired with an image of Red kissing the dead Liz.
# – [Episode 9:7] 📔 Between Sleep and Awake – Unnumbered; Background on Ressler’s two years after Liz’s death, a time in which he struggled with drug addiction and worked for a time as a mechanic, finally finding a way to heal himself by restoring a vintage roadster. He connected with a woman named Lauren and her son Theodore who were also fleeing from their difficult past at the hands of a physically abusive husband/stepdad, Shane. The episode ended with Ressler getting a haircut and having his beard shaved, buying flowers and visiting Liz’s grave, which is next to Tom’s. Talking to Liz and Tom (but mostly Liz), Ressler gave his unique Ressler-esque take on the Season so far (eg “Reddington shaved his head and his new lover’s a shaman”), and after tears and laughs (but mostly tears), seemed to see a way to move forward with his life.
# – [Episode 9:19] 📔 The Bear Mask – aka “Aram X”; Aram undergoes psychedelic therapy to try to deal with the depression and anxiety he has experienced since taking over the reins of the task force as Cooper awaits his sentencing. In Aram’s psychedelic trip, the task force is attacked by mercenaries led by a man wearing a metallic bear mask. The events repeat several times, each time beginning with his exiting the yellow elevator. Finally, the man lifts the mask to reveal – the visage of Aram himself (‘Aram X’), accusing him directly of events Aram believes he could have stopped, (including Liz’s death and Samar’s aphasia) if only Aram had been more assertive or less clumsy. Just as ‘Aram X’ is about to shoot Aram in the head, Samar appears and shoots ‘Aram X’ and tells Aram that ‘no one has that much control’ and that he has ‘always been enough.’ Also, in this episode, Red’s DNA expert Vlad Cvetko determines that it was not Mr Kate Kaplan, but rather her sister Maureen Rowan, who tried to kill Red by luring him to a parking garage and blowing it up. Weecha went in instead and was injured.
# – [Episode 10:1] 📚 The Night Owl – Unnumbered; (status, alive: Alban Veseli) “The Night Owl” in this episode turned out to be a code name for Alban Veseli, The Freelancer (Blacklister #145) [Episode 1:2]. Veseli’s modus operandi was to hide crimes, usually assassinations, behind mass casualty events that he himself engineered. Wujing, another Blacklister (Blacklister #84) [Episode 1:3], hired yet another Blacklister, Jennifer Anne Moores (Leader of a gang of professional thieves, The Fribourg Confidence, Blacklister #140) [Episode 8:5] to track down Veseli. Why? Because Red’s former lawyer Marvin Gerard (Blacklister #80) [Episodes 3.2, 9:21 and 9:22] sent Wujing on a revenge tour in Episode 9:22 by informing Wujing that Red was a confidential informant who was the reason Wujing was arrested and imprisoned (actually, it was Liz who signaled law enforcement to arrest Wujing without Red’s knowledge, but never mind). Marvin had given Wujing a list of other Blacklisters who had been betrayed by Red. Marvin then committed suicide, having been given little other choice by Red.
Alban Veseli was on the list Marvin gave to Wujing. Wujing turned to Jennifer Ann Moores, the master thief, to find him. Through his contact at the Chinese Consulate in New York, Chin Yao, Wujing sent Moores to retrieve a list of where Veseli was being held. Once she had copied the file, however, the room she was in at the Consulate exploded💥🔥‼️🔥💥 killing her.
Shortly before the explosion, Aram (who was no longer working for the task force but was living in New York) saw someone who looked like a shaggy Red walking away from the Consulate and getting into a cab. After the explosion, Aram called Cooper who sent Ressler and Dembe to investigate. Moores had died clutching a laptop which Ressler and Dembe seized over Chin Yao’s objections. Whiz kid Tadashi Ito was able to recover some of the relevant files. Before they were required to return the laptop, they determined Moores had used the Consulate resources to copy a file providing the location of “The Night Owl.” The location was a high end “shipping” company called Luxe International on the UK island of Montserrat in the Caribbean. Ressler and Dembe followed the breadcrumbs to Montserrat, but there they found out that Luxe International was deep cover for an international collaboration of intelligence agencies, including the CIA and MI6. They were told “The Night Owl” was not a sculpture but Veseli who was wanted in the UK for creating a mass casualty event that killed a human rights crusader. Unfortunately, before they could resolve what to do with Alban Veseli, Wujing’s men attacked the facility and escaped with Veseli.

Episodes with Blacklister Numbers

(By Blacklister Number)
# 1. [Episode 8:4] 📓 Elizabeth Keen – (dead; shot and killed by Neville Townsend’s henchman Elias Vandyke in 8:22 Konets); aka Allison Thomas, Carolyn Givins, etc. Red placed Liz at the top of The Blacklist after she tried to blow him up with 16 ounces of Semtex because he shot and killed her mother, Katarina Rostova, Blacklister #3 [Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova, Pt 2]. He said he was putting Liz on The Blacklist to ‘keep her from doing something that she can never recover from.’ Among those things would be to reveal his identity as N-13, a mysterious agent thought to be in possession of a blackmail file called the Sikorsky Archive. She learned his identity as N-13 from the recording Katarina made of her last conversation with Red which Katarina left as a message on Liz’s phone. Liz wasted no time sharing this information trying to get Red’s associates to flip to help her. Red was promptly summoned to Moscow to meet with his “Friend in the East” [ Identified in Episode 8:16 as Ivan Stepanov (eventually, Blacklister #5) ]. Red insisted that his identity as N-13 was “an allegation that no one believes.” Stepanov corrected him, saying it was “a fact no one knows is true. Red insisted that “Elizabeth Keen is off limits.” Stepanov said he agrees – “for now.”
Liz remained determined to kill Red in revenge for her mother’s murder until at last, Red decided to tell her “everything” and, at the end of 8:20 Godwin Page (Blacklister #141), after Liz had surrendered to Cooper and was placed in the notorious “red box,” Red’s men broke into the Post Office and airlifted the box to a horse ranch in Loudoun County VA where Red was also holding Godwin Page (Blacklister #141). Liz conspired with Page to reverse engineer the chip Red had placed in Godwin’s neck so it would allow Townsend to track Red. She had the chip when Red flew her to Riga Latvia, the “epicenter” of his information-gathering operation, located in a Cold War era bunker. He admitted he was N-13.   In Episode 8:21 Nachalo (“The Beginning” in Russian), Red promised her “the truth” about her parents and why he had “re-entered” her life. The story was conveyed to her in a dream-like state by her mother (young Katarina Rostova), father (the real Raymond Reddington, an American attaché the the U.S. embassy in Moscow), her grandfather (Dominic “Dom”) Wilkinson, a KGB spymaster), Ilya Koslov (Katarina’s friend and one of Dom’s operatives), Ivan Stepanov (Katarina’s handler and friend), and Tatiana Petrova, the woman who had insinuated herself into Liz’s life, who was killed by Red and who Liz had thought was her mother [Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova (Blacklister #3)]. She was, however, an imposter, a sacrificial victim who Dom intended to kill in the car bomb in Belgrade, and pass off as his daughter Katarina. But Tatiana had survived and entered Liz’s and Red’s lives looking for a way to take the heat off of herself. What became of Liz’s real mother and Red’s identity remained a mystery. At the end of 8:21, Townsend’s men invaded the bunker (the tracking chip was still on). Liz was shot, but Red, Dembe and Liz retreated to The Nest, a super-hardened nuclear bomb-resistent core from which Red was able to incinerate Townsend and his men, except for Vandyke, who remained outside.
In 8:22 Konets (“The Ending” in Russian), Red told Liz he had a letter from her mother that provided the answers to her questions, but he would only let her have the letter under one condition: that she shoot him and take over his empire. He said it was the only way she would have the power, respect and resources to keep herself and her daughter Agnes protected. He wanted her to do it on the street where “the world” would see the evidence and her stature and criminality would be undeniable. Liz agreed to do it. But, at the last minute, Liz balked and despite encouragement from Red, she couldn’t bring herself to shoot him. Then she herself was shot – by Vandyke, Townsend’s right-hand man who shared Townsend’s desire for Red to witness Liz’s death. Then image of Katarina kissing the newborn Masha (Liz) was paired with an image of Red kissing the dead Liz.
# 3. [Episode 7:10, Episode 8:2] 📙📓 Katarina Rostova, Parts 1 and 2 – (dead, shot by Red); real name: Tatiana Petrova; aka Maddy Tolliver, Constance Drucker. (Prior to Episode 8:21 Nachalo:) At end of Season 4, Dembe said to Red, “Raymond I’m not sure Elizabeth will ever be ready to learn about what you did to Katarina.” (second to last scene 4:22). Despite rumors that she had committed suicide, “Katarina” appeared alive in Episode 6:22, when Red approached her on a Paris Street. She turned, kissed him, then jabbed him in the gut with and injection of Ketamine, She held Red hostage, plying him for information [Episodes 7:1-2].
In Episode 7:10, Liz learned that Katarina was alive and was the woman (Maddy Tolliver) who moved next door to her in Episode 7:2 and became her friend and Agnes’s nanny. This was based on information seized from Orion Relocation Services [Episode 7:9 (Blacklister #159)] which identified her as the person who had replaced her former neighbor (who would then have been killed by Orion). Liz confronted her, but then found her story to be compelling: that Katarina’s father Dom Wilkinson had tried to kill her in 1991 and that she, like Liz, is searching for Red’s true identity. Katarina faked her assassination (via the Kazanjian Brothers) at the end of the episode, fooling Red, but letting Liz know she was stillvery much alive.
In Episode 8:1 [Roanoke] Katarina told Liz that a bounty had been placed on her head by the Townsend Organization (the “Townsend Directive”) because they thought she was N-13, a mysterious operative in possession of a blackmail file known as the Sikorsky Archive, but she believed N-13 was Red or Dom or both. To get answers, Liz abducted Dom from under Red’s care and Katarina subjected him to intense interrogation. (Dom had recently emerged from a coma after being shot in the chest by one of Katarina’s men.) Liz bailed when the interrogation got too rough but Katarina proceeded and, in a hallucinatory state, Dom told Katarina that Red is N-13. Dom said she (Katarina) took the Sikorsky Archive “but he [Red] has it.” Later, when Red arrived at the bedside of the dying Dom, Dom confessed to Red that he had told Katarina “everything.” Katarina arranged to tell William Heidegger, the head of the Townsend Organization in the Western Hemisphere, that Red is N-13, but Red intervened and shot her in a park, as Liz ran toward them trying to stop the execution. Katarina died but she had managed to place a call to Liz leaving behind a recording of her last conversation with Red and capturing even the sound of the shots that killed her. [Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova, Part 2]
In response to the murder of her mother, Liz turned on Red, leaving the FBI and making herself a criminal in the process. By the eponymous Episode 8:4, Red had placed Liz at the #1 position on The Blacklist. But it was not until Episode 8:21 Nachalo, in which Red had captured and flown Liz to Latvia to tell her “everything,” that it was revealed that the woman who was identified as Katarina Rostova (Blacklister #3) since Season 6 was not Liz’s mother but another Russian operative controlled by Liz’s grandfather Dom, set up to take the fall for the real Katarina. This woman’s name was Tatiana Petrova. Although Red had helped Tatiana hide and live safely in Paris for years, when Liz and Ressler’s renewed search for Katarina raised the suspicions of the Townsend Organization and the “Townsend Directive” was reactivated, Red felt compelled to let Tatiana know that things were heating up, thus kicking off the events of Season 7 and through Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova, Part 2.
But Episode 8:21 Nachalo was unusual ~ a story told by Red and conveyed to Liz in a dream-like state. Tatiana Petrova spoke to Liz only as a phantasm. Most of the story was narrated by her real mother Katarina Rostova at about 35 years of age. The future and fate of the real Katarina were sealed in a letter she wrote to Liz but was left unread at Liz’s death at the end Episode 8:22 Konets (“The Ending” in Russian). What happened to Katarina and who Red is were teased in visuals as being one-and-the-same but such were hints tempered by layers of innuendo, visual-only presentstion, and a storytelling method ripe for plausible deniability. Definitive answers as to Red’s identity and Katarina’s fate were pushed off into Season 9. Tbc …
# 4. [Episodes 4:21-22] Mr (Kate) Kaplan – (dead); aka Kathryn Nemec; Red’s long-time cleaner, friend of Katarina and former nanny of Liz, jumped from bridge to avoid prison and to unleash a plan to deliver a suitcase of bones to Liz. Tom, however, intercepted the suitcase and had the bones analyzed for DNA. The DNA report indicated the bones belonged to the real Raymond Reddington, Liz’s father. Mr Kaplan made subsequent appearance inEpisode 8:14 Misère, in which she appeared as an apparition, hallucination or projection of Liz’s mind who counseled her to be utterly ruthless in going after Red as Liz sought revenge for Red’s murder of her mother, Katarina Rostova (Blacklister #3) [in Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova, Part 2].
# 5. [Episode 8:17] 📓 Ivan Stepanov – (alive, rescued by Red with FBI help, after which Red spirited him away); A member of the Russian SVR (foreign intelligence service), and also believed to be a higher-up in the super-secret Russian black ops organization Zaslon. He is identified by Liz as being the protégé of her grandfather Dominic Wilkinson and a friend of both Red and her mother, Katarina Rostova (Dom’s daughter). Red describes him as ‘one of my oldest and closest friends.’ Stepanov was captured by Neville Townsend at the end of Episode 8:16 Nicholas Obenrader (Blacklister #133) based on information he obtained by tapping Ressler’s phone calls with Liz. Townsend used torture and an SVR-developed “truth serum” to pry information from Stepanov about Red and Liz and the murder of his family, which Townsend was forced to witness. Townsend declared his intention to force Red to witness as he murders Elizabeth. Red was able to rescue Stepanov from Townsend and then spirited him away from the FBI before they could take him in for interrogation (See more pre-story on Ivan Stepanov under “Other Bad Guys”).
# 6. [Episode 6:14] 📗 The Osterman Umbrella Company – (still operating); A group of assassins hired by the world’s spy agencies to eliminate their own agents when they are deemed security risks; in this episode, Mossad hired them to kill Samar because her progressive vascular dementia, the result of her near drowning, meant that at some point she would no longer be able to keep Mossad’s secrets. See also “Levi Shur” under “Other Bad Guys.”
# 7. [Episode 2:16] Tom Keen – (dead); aka Christopher Hargrave (birth name), Jacob Phelps, Christof Mannhein etc; (featured in spin-off, The Blacklist Redemption. Spin-off was canceled. Tom reappeared in very last scene of Season 4, opening a suitcase of bones.) In 5:8 Ian Garvey, Tom died of stab wounds administered by Garvey after he refused to connect him with Red.
# 8. [Episodes 1:21-22 ] Berlin – (dead); aka Milosz Kirchhoff; executed by Red after murder of Fitch. He blamed Red for the murder of his daughter. Then Red tracked down Berlin’s daughter Zoe and arranged for the two of them to meet. His daughter had faked her death (with help from The Stewmaker (Episode 1:4, Blacklister #161) to escape from her father because of the horrible things he did for the Soviets, and relocated to the United States.
# 9. [Episode 6:13] 📗 Robert Vesco – (free); aka Giovanni [See 9:3 The SPK] Red’s former mentor who had taught him how to live as a fugitive; a con man who had conned Red then has fallen on hard times after faking his own death. Red used the FBI to track him down, then collaborated with him in uncovering a lost treasure of gold. Then Vesco conned Red again, disappearing with all of the loot. [Note: Robert Vesco also appears prominently in Episode 9:3 The SPK, at which time, Dembe places him under arrest]
#10. [Episode 4:16] Dembe Zuma – [ Say it ain’t so! ] [ It ain’t ] ~ Dembe did not betray Red. Still, as Red’s bodyguard and right-hand-man, he possibly merits a number. [Note: After Season 8 and Red’s disappearance for two years, strings are pulled and Dembe becomes an FBI agent ]
#11. [Episode 2:22] Tom Connolly – (dead); US Attorney General and Cabal member; shot by Liz after he threatened her colleagues, including Red. Shooting him, she flashed back to having shot her father as a child, a memory that Red had sought medical help to wipe from her memory.
#12. [Episode 2:8] The Decembrist – (dead); aka Alan Fitch, Cabal member, killed by a bomb fastened to his neck by Berlin’s goons.
#13. [Episodes 5:8 & 19 ] 📘 Ian Garvey – (dead); shot by Liz after he shot at Red in 5:19; “Big Bad” for much of Season 5, according to showrunner John Eisendrath in Entertainment Weekly (11/15/2017); killed Tom Keen and obtained the suitcase with a skeleton inside left for Liz by Mr Kaplan; revealed in 5:13 he is a US Marshal; revealed in 5:18 he became “surrogate father” to Raymond Reddington’s daughter Jennifer (aka Lillian Roth) ~ got her into WITSEC.
#14. [Episode 3:22-23] Alexander Kirk – (alive?); aka Konstantin Rostov, Russian oligarch and criminal; married to Liz’s mother Katarina Rostova; believed he was Liz’s father: DNA test said he’s not; “gone” for now per Red; Red told Cooper Kirk was not on the Blacklist (1/19/2017).
#15. [Episode 6:22] 📗 Robert Diaz – (resigned, will be investigated); President of the United States, behind a plot (with Anna McMahon, Blacklister #60 and Secret Service agent and sharpshooter Milian Sandquist) to kill the First Lady Miriam Diaz to prevent her from revealing that he was involved in a drunk driving incident in which he killed a woman and her child and then covered it up. Former MI6 agent Christopher Miles stumbled onto the plot but mistakenly thought it was a plot to assassinate the president.
#16. [Episode1:9-10] Anslo Garrick – (dead); killed by Red (choked and then stabbed with a medical scissors) after threatening Liz.
#17. [Episode 5:22] 📘 Sutton Ross – (dead; shot by Red); aka Max Birmington, Vernon Duquesne; enemy of Red’s, put into Witness Protection by Ian Garvey (#13); collaborated with Liz and Jennifer/Lilly to get the duffel of bones from Ian Garvey to Jennifer.
#18. [Episode 3:21] Susan Hargrave – (alive); Tom’s mother; tried to kill Red on contract from Alexander Kirk. (Was in spin-off, The Blacklist Redemption). After Tom’s death, Liz’s daughter Agnes went to live with her for a time.
#19. [Episode 5:16] 📘 The Capricorn Killer – (dead); (aka Wendel Seivers); killed by Anthony Elliot Hollis working with vigilante profiler Dr Sharon Fulton, Liz’s therapist, who operates outside the law to kill serial killers according to each’s special M.O. Dr Fulton was allowed to escape apprehension by Liz. Hollis was shot by Samar. See also Gerald Duggar (the Tri-State Butcher) and Stav (The Sandman) under “Other Bad Guys.” They were among the other serial killers Dr Fulton went after.
#20. [Episode 6:2] 📗 The Corsican – (dead); Bastien Moreau, terrorist-for-hire for ultra-nationalism, anti-globalist causes hired by Anna McMahon [Episode 6:21 (Blacklister #60)]; staged a bombing attempt on the U.N. after his appearance had been modified by Dr Hans Koehler (Blacklister #33); attempt was thwarted but he escaped). (See below ⇊ )
#20. [Episode 6:11-12] 📗 Bastien Moreau – (dead); Moreau, aka “The Corsican” [Ep 6:2] reappeared in two eponymous episodes. He arranged the murder (via Blacklister #116 General Shiro’s weaponized insects) of the head of the BND, Germany‘s Federal Intelligence Service. Red, on Death Row, offered President Robert Diaz to avert the murder in exchange for his own life. Unfortunately, Diaz had ordered the hit. Shot in [6:12] by Mr Sandquist (aide to Diaz) to keep him (Moreau) from spilling the beans to the FBI after Red convinced him he’d been used.
#21. [Episodes 2:10-11 ] Luther Braxton – (dead); Braxton kidnapped and tortured Liz and subjected her to memory recall therapy in which she recalled the Christmas of the fire. She also learned her childhood name was Masha. Braxton was hung by Red and Dembe.
#22. [Episode 2:7] The Scimitar – (dead); aka Waleed Abu Sitta, also aka Dr Daniel Rivera, an Iranian terrorist who tried to abduct a top Sunni nuclear scientist. He was shot in forehead execution style, likely by Samar Navabi, who believed he was responsible for her brother Shahin’s death in a terrorist attack. Red met with Gramercy on the Caelum Bank plane, but the plane was forced to land by the FAA after a call from Aram. Ressler boarded and ‘recognized’ Red. Red and Gramercy landed in a jail cell together. Red said he could get them out – if Gramercy gave up the name of the person who authorized the payment. He wouldn’t, so Red shot him.   Meanwhile, Cooper, Aram and Park had talked to two lawyers involved in the separate blackmail scheme involving Tyson LaCroix and Cole, who referred to the scheme’s mastermind code-named “Claudius.” Cooper told Red about “Claudius.” Going through videos from the LaCroix’s home, Park saw that the best man at the LaCroix’s wedding was — Marvin Gerard. Cooper called Red to warn him not to trust Marvin. Then Heddie appeared on the plane, shocking Marvin. Red said that when Park had her headache, it reminded him that Liz had had a headache the day she died. She’d been drinking coffee at Marvin’s office. Red asked, “What was in it?” Then Marvin had given her “aspirin,” but Red remembered the aspirin was encapsulated. It must have contained the tracking device. Cornered, Marvin confessed. But Marvin had ‘an insurance policy,’ showing Red on his cell phone that he had a hit man ready to shoot Mierce if he was not able to leave the plane safely. He challenged Red for control of his empire: “May the best man win.” Red was about to let Marvin go, but Weecha attacked him. She helped them access the vault in exchange for a promise from Red that he would help her evade the FBI for what she said was a minor support role in an arms smuggling operation. Inside the vault, Red and Dembe were stunned to find the computer disks Red had made for Liz with instructions on how to run his empire. Meanwhile, Aram, who was placed temporarily in charge of the task force, decided to go around the agreement he had made with Red. He tracked the communications Red had with Helen as the operation was underway and used the coordinates to locate Helen and have her arrested. This infuriated Red, but what infuriated him even more was that he found out Helen had lied to him about the extent of her involvement in the illicit arms deal. Only when she explained to him that the rebels she was arming were fighting a regime which had executed her son, an innocent aid worker, did Red soften and allow her to begin her life under a new identity in Italy at Lake Como.
#176. [Episode 9:13] 📔 Genuine Models Inc – (still in business); A company headed by CEO Maverick Sawyer which makes lifelike companion robots, capable of a full range of human interactions, including sexual. One purchaser of a “Chrissy model,” Gordon Graham, who had formed a strong affection with his “Chrissy,” became incensed that other owners were “defiling” theirs. He hacked the robots’ software so the robots would strangle the owners who tried to have sex with them. When the task force cornered Graham after a car chase, he chose to drive his car over a steep embankment, committing suicide. Status of the “Chrissy” is unknown.
#177. [Episode 9:17] 📔 El Conejo – means “The Rabbit”; real name is Don Francisco Luis Marquez (❌ arrested); head of the Marquez smuggling syndicate. Originally involved in cocaine smuggling, the syndicate more recently turned to the lucrative business of avocado smuggling. They kidnapped Aram when they discovered his name embedded in computer code used to take down the server network which handled the supply lines and logistics key to the network’s operation. This was the first Aram knew that his former partner at Greylock, Nick Faria, had withheld from him parts of an independent review that warned that Aram’s software had vulnerabilities allowing it to be pirated and weaponized. With help from the Scripps brothers who had written the server software for the Marquez’s logistical network, the task force geolocated Aram and freed him. They also captured Machado, a member of the Marquez operation who struck a deal to tell them where to find Don Marquez where he meet with the person who had used Aram’s software to intercept a truckload of avocados. This turned out to be Antonio, Don Marquez’s son who, when apprehended, told Aram that his roommate at Princeton had hacked the code. Realizing how dangerous his code could be, Aram insisted Nick stop selling Greylock. When Nick refused, Aram made the code inoperable and unrecoverable.

Vesco was once a mentor to Red, but is on-the-outs since he conned Red out of $50M in gold. Vesco has lost control of the ‘icon con,’ however. A discontented follower, Colfax, unhappy with the pace of progress, plans to blow up a church with a small group during the display of an icon. Red intervenes and the fringe group is eviscerated by his new body guard, Weecha Xiu. Boarding Red’s plane to fly to Malta to get Red his $50M, Dembe, Red’s former bodyguard but now an FBI agent, intervenes and arrests Vesco, over Red’s objections.

[Episode 9:18] 📔 Laszlo Jankowics – aka Oroszlan (“Lion” in Hungarian); (likely to be ❌ arrested); An importer and supplier of LSD, he “got high on his own supply” and became psychotic, imagining he was accompanied everywhere by a full-grown African lion. The son of Marko Jankowics (Blacklister #58), Laszlo took over the business after his father was killed by Ressler. He also inherited his father’s chemist, Wallace Avery, who knew how to turn the raw ingredients into product. When hallucinogens began to be studied and legalized, Avery wanted to go legit and started up Virtual Horizons Lab. Laszlo’s response was to show up with his gunman Sebastian Graham and gun down Avery’s entire recently hired staff. But Red’s main interest in the case was that Laszlo’s cleaner is Clara Moore, protégé of Kate Kaplan, who Red has recently learned had given herself access to the set of videos he had made for Liz on how to run his empire. [ See also the entry under “Unnumbered” for Clara Moore ]
#181. [Episode 9:14] 📔 Eva Mason – (likely dead); a vigilante who kidnapped mothers inflicting their children with diseases or injury ~ a form of child abuse known as Munchauser’s Syndrome by Proxy (or Factious Syndrome Performed on Another). Having witnessed her own mother doing this to her sister, Eva Mason began kidnapping the mothers to free their children to receive proper medical care, and also to ‘treat’ the mothers in her own ‘hospital’ by inflicting on them the same tortures they had inflicted on their children. The task force got the case from Senator Cynthia Panabaker (a former national security official who had once has responsibility for the task force) whose own daughter-in-law had been in Eva Mason’s hospital but escaped). The FBI intervened as Eva Mason was threatening one of the abusive mothers at gunpoint. The daughter (about 10 years old) found a gun in her mother’s bag and shot Eva. It is not clear from the script if the shooting was fatal.

Kennison was the same man Cooper had placed in witness protection as a demand by the person (“Voicebox”) who was blackmailing Cooper. So Red grabbed Kennison from under the protection of the US Marshals. Under questioning by Red, Kennison said he had given the device to an NYPD police detective named Reginald Cole. Red went to Cole’s office but he had already been given a head’s up (by who?) and left. The task force, also pursuing Cole, nabbed him before Red could and brought him in for questioning, but his lawyer Tyson LaCroix showed up. LaCroix knew an uncanny amount about the Post Office black site, Liz’s death, and even about Vandyke. He also argued the task force didn’t have enough evidence to detain his client Cole, so before Cole could be questioned, he left with LaCroix. Red and his team planned to nab Cole and LaCroix outside the black site, but before they could do so, both Cole and LaCroix were gunned down by a motorcyclist.

*Note: Nathaniel Wolff (“General Ludd”) goes by several other aliases including Roger Gard, Arthur Denning and Bradley Holland. His “thing” is creating multiple identities out of thin air.

He then tried to use Felicia Dawson to lure in the Gaming Enforecent agents, but the task force intervened and killed the sniper. The task force then used Felicia Dawson to lure in Abazi. He was placed under arrest but refused to talk. Red suggested Cooper put out word at a press conference that Abazi had talked even though he hadn’t. It worked and the market tanked (except for Red’s stock). The Chairman called a meeting of the night market’s top investors to tell them it was only a rumor. Red, being one of the investors, attended the meeting and passed the address to the task force, which raided the meeting after Red left. Before his death [in Episode 8:2 Katarina Rostova Pt 2], he told Katarina that Red was N-13, a mysterious operative who possessed a blackmail file, the Sikorsky Archive, but that he and Red had let the Townsend Organization believe it was her, resulting in a bounty being placed on her head.
In 8:21, Nachalo, in account told to Liz by Red via story told in a dream-like atmosphere, it was not Katarina who Dom planned to kill in Belgrade, but another of his operatives named Tatiana Petrova. It was she who escaped, she whose husband was killed, and she who had had to go into hiding. It was she Red had gone to warn, she who had interrogated Red, Ilya and Dom and who had befriended Liz. It was she who Red had shot in the park after Dom had told her “everything” – not just that Red was N-13 but who Red was before he became Raymond Reddington.

He used the services of Bhavish Ratna, “The Hawaladar” (Blacklister #162) to pay Eli Atticus to extract Alfred Wang, an informant he discovered, from hospital care before he could talk. Red provided the tip to the FBI when he detained Bhavish Ratna. [Episode 7:8]

⭕ Liz’s Father

Each season so far has ended with a major “revelation” about the identity of Elizabeth Keen’s father. Did the revelation at the end of Season 5! finally settle this question? Or is the truth still out there – weirder yet and perhaps utterly unforgivable?

999 Liz’s father – The central mystery of the series: Is Red Liz’s father? Major relevant scenes:

In 1:22, Red tells Liz he is not her father and that “Your father is dead. He died in that fire.” In the last scene of that episode, Red is shown to have severe burn scars on his back.

In 2:10, during a memory recovery session performed by Dr Selma Orchard, Liz sees her father “dying on the floor of a burning house.” She says to Red “You were there” (which he affirms). Could he be both or were they the same? Dr Orchard later tells Liz she believes Liz’s memories had previously been altered.

In 2:22, in a flashback or false memory, Liz sees herself shooting her father when she was a young child when he is fighting with her mother.

In 3:23, Alexander Kirk (formerly Constantine Rostov, to whom Liz’s mother, Katarina Rostova, was married) tells Liz he is her father. DNA testing later shows this to be false, though Kirk claims Red had altered the test results.

In 4:17, Kate Kaplan recalls Liz’s mother saying that “Raymond” had abducted Liz (Masha) because “He thinks she’s his.” Katarina tells Kate she herself doesn’t know who Liz’s father is.

In 4:19, memory manipulator Dr Bogdan Krilov tells Liz he manipulated her memories just two years earlier. Liz confronts Red over this but he evades a direct answer.

In 4:22, Cooper runs a DNA comparison for Liz ID’ing Raymond Reddington as her father (based, however, on 25 year old DNA sample from a bloody shirt). Further doubt remains as Dembe asked Red “You didn’t deny it?” as though there might be a reason to deny it, or at least that it may be beside the point.

In 5:22, another huge paternity reveal as the skeleton Mr Kaplan left for Liz in [4:22] – which was purloined by Tom, leading to his murder by Ian Garvey in [5:8] – is revealed to Liz by Sutton Ross to be the skeleton of Raymond Reddington. Red gets the skeleton and burns it but doesn’t know what Liz learned. She vows to “destroy” Red. Still, why would Cooper use an old blood sample from a messy torture scene instead of using “our” Red’s DNA. Could Red be Liz’s father after all?

Related:
999 Who were the 3-5 men leaving the burning house? – Were they bad guys or good guys? Why would they leave Liz and the man on the floor behind?
999 Who killed Red’s family? – if someone did. Diane Fowler seemed to validate the tale of “Bloody Christmas Eve” Red told to Madeline Pratt.

Fowler: I know the truth, Red, about that night – about what happened to your family. Do you want to know the truth?
Red: More than anything in the world. But if you know the truth, Diane, then somebody else does, too. [ 💥💥💥💥 ]

// 9/26/2017, James Spader interview

James Spader: [Re: Father question:] “Don’t get too comfortable” & “Why would they reveal anything in the 4th season?”

Note: (3/22/2018) I’ve tried to avoid projecting where the plot is going, but JB’s and JE’s saying there will be a huge cliffhanger at the end of S5 is keeping me up at night. It most likely has to do with the skeleton. The obvious thing would be that it’s Katarina, but wouldn’t that be too obvious? My wild guess is that it’s Raymond Reddington; Liz is the daughter of KR and RR but Red killed them both in retaliation for one or both of them killing his family on “that night” that Diane Fowler referred to, which may be the same as the tale of “Bloody Christmas” Red told to Madeline Pratt. Maybe Ian Garvey was one of the men involved in the investigation of that multiple homicide or maybe one of the guys in the house the night of the fire. Red has never himself said to Liz or anyone else that she is his daughter. Cooper got RR’s blood for DNA analysis from an old shirt from evidence, not from our Red. What explains Red’s attachment to Liz? I don’t know, but maybe a hint is his monologue at the end of the “Tom Keen” episode, when he talks about becoming a benefactor, as Liz has become for the Harbormaster’s daughter. Plus, he may have transferred feelings he had for his own daughter to her. Kind of “weak tea,” I know, but it could set up a whole new ballgame for a Season 6 ~ with Liz turning on Red to avenge her parent(s) murder. Or maybe the skeleton is just Katarina’s, per the “K” on the tree and because Mr Kaplan said “Sorry, Katarina” when she dug up the suitcase.
⋙ Much of this ⇈ confirmed in S5 Finale on 5/16/2018.

Note: (2/26/2019) Episode 6:9 Minister D just aired. Red was just acquitted in his trial for treason. This “Red” (our Red) is believed to be an imposter, not the real Raymond Reddington by those in the know: Liz, Lilly/Jennifer and now Ressler. The searing question is why would anyone voluntarily take on the identity of a pariah like Reddington? We know Katarina inexplicably arranged the plastic surgery. We also know Liz shot her father when she was three or four. So: maybe Katarina found someone to change into a look-alike for Liz’s sake, to possibly save her from the knowledge she had killed her father. Who might this person be? One possibility (among many) would be Minister D’s lover, Zachary Tempkin, believed to be dead in the explosion that severely scarred Minister D. Perhaps he was literally a “man without a face,” somehow indebted to Katarina, perhaps by finding him in the aftermath of the explosion she caused when Minister D tried to blackmail her. Just one wacky theory among so many!
♡ ૂི•̮͡• ྀ ♡

Note: (11/19/2019) In Episode 7:7 Hannah Hayes, Katarina tracks down Ilya Koslov, who apparently is Red’s childhood friend Frank Bloom and not Red. So the tale Dom told to Liz – that Ilya Koslov assumed the identity of Raymond Reddington and is in fact “our” Red appears to be a fabrication. So then who is Red? My guess at the moment is that Raymond Reddington is alive. The burn scars on Red’s back have never been explained. My guess is Red is, indeed, Raymond Reddington. I’ll go further. Red is Liz’s father.

📓 Note: (2/27/2021 In Episode 8:7 [Chemical Mary, Blacklister #143], in a conversation with Dembe (with no one else present), this conversation takes place:

Dembe: I think you understand Elizabeth. Probably more than you want to.
Red: Well, I’m not her father. Maybe if I were, I’d want to understand her even better. Perhaps she wouldn’t be so determined to kill me.

So, that seems to settle it. I’ve seen nothing lately to suggest there is a potential romantic interest on either side, though the writers have another season coming up. The pressing question remains: If Red is not Liz’s father and there’s no romantic interest, what possible explanation is there for Red’s continued obsession with her? Guilt, maybe?

📓 Note: (5/16/2021) After Episode 8:17 Ivan Stepanov, (Blacklister #133].
I thought this question was laid to rest (above note from 2/27/2021) when Red said to Dembe that he was not Liz’s father because I assumed Dembe knew everything. But Episode 8:17 Ivan Stepanov (Blacklister #5) opened this can of worms again. Perhaps Dembe doesn’t know the entire truth, but Ivan Stepanov does. We learn from Red that Ivan is one of Red’s oldest and closest friends. Liz says Ivan was her grandfather Dom’s protégé and Red credits him for making him the person he is. Red, Katarina and Ivan were all friends; Ivan was a few years older. I believe these relationships pre-dated Red’s relationship with Dembe. What makes this matter is that, under torture and the influence of an SVR-developed “truth serum,” Ivan whispered something to Townsend that left him determined (as Red predicted he would be) to kill Liz. But now, he explicitly wants to do this so Red will experience was he had felt when his family was killed, for which he blames Red. Townsend’s exact words as Red and Liz are locked together in a cooler:

Townsend: Elizabeth? You in there? I do hope you’re in there, Elizabeth, because I’m gonna need you for this next part, which promises to be rather awful. While you have a moment, I suggest that you and Raymond reflect upon the concept of loss. I know it well. I feel it in every breath I take, every moment that – [ Chuckles ] – that I sleep. Loss became a part of me when I watched my wife and children die before my very eyes! But today, Raymond, I’m gonna give you that burden! I’m gonna show you loss! Today, I’m going to kill Elizabeth while you watch. [Emphasis added]

📓 Note: (7/3/2021) Episode 8:21 Nachalo and 8:22 Konets both hint a the idea that Red is not Liz’s father but rather her mother. But the evidence comes with wiggle room for backtracking, retelling or “retconning.” First, in Episode 8:21 “Nachalo” (“The Beginning”), it is in the form of a story told by Red to Liz, seen by her in a dreamlike sequence, in which phantasms of her mother Katarina, her father the real Raymond Reddington and others present an account of what happened. The “evidence” focuses on the claim made by the phantasm of her mother that she “created” Raymond Reddington, followed by images of the surgery, followed by James Brown’s song “It’s a Man’s World.” Liz tries to get Katarina to answer directly, but she fades out of view when Neville Townsend’s men attack and a bullet goes through her.

In Episode 8:22 Konets (“The Ending”), Red tells Liz that the answers about Red’s identity and what happened to her mother are contained in a letter to her from Katarina. But Red has one small ask before she can see the letter: that she kill him and take over his empire. Although she reluctantly agrees, when push comes to shove, she can’t pull the trigger. Townsend’s right hand man, Vandyke, however, has no such problem. He shoots Liz just above the heart in fulfillment of the now-dead Townsend’s desire that Red watch as Liz dies. A montage of Liz’s memories of those she has loved and who have loved her ends with a sequence in which images of Red and juxtaposed with images of Katarina. Liz then dies and a final juxtaposition is shown: Katarina kissing newborn Masha, followed by Red kissing the dead Liz. As Liz is already dead, these can only be Red’s memories.
