NBC SHOWS 2014-2015 (by 18-49yo demographic “the demo”)
Nothing bothers me more than snarky reviews. Or reviews that seem intended to show how knowledgable the reviewer is rather than tell me something insightful about the show. So I thought I’d turn the tables and review the reviewers. I found all The Blacklist season finale [2:22 Tom Connolly] reviews that showed up on the my first two Google pages and graded them for how helpful and insightful I thought they were.
Maybe even more useful, I took at look at their internet sites and graded those, too. Here, I was looking for functionality as well as for organization and interest.

Q: “Looking back over Season 2, in what ways would you say that the relationship between Liz and Reddington has changed?
James Spader: In terms of that relationship, it has its hills and valleys and I think it has to continue to be that way. It’s a very, very complicated relationship between the two of them. As much as she doesn’t know the true nature of their relationship, I think it’s quite equitable for Reddington as well because I think he’s trying to grasp a hold of what the true nature of their relationship is now. Forget the past, regardless of what that the past represents. What is the nature of their relationship now and what are even the possibilities of a relationship with her. I think he’s enormously conflicted that he’s there. He certainly has a protective instinct but by the same token he does bring an awful lot of crisis and strife to her life. And I think he probably wrestles with that quite a lot.”

I can’t stop looking at James Spader’s face. I’ve noticed I am not alone in this… It’s as though there were 1000 masks, each one capturing *perfectly* an emotion you didn’t even know existed but that you instantly recognize, and he moves flawlessly from one to the next, sometimes donning several in a second. There must be a name for what he does – micro-acting? I think I saw “close camera acting” somewhere. Anyway, he has nailed it. I am riveted.

@Belle, I re-read your post on how/why Tom may have worked for Red. It definitely lays out as good a case as can be made. The writers love to “surprise” (jerk around?) the viewers, so I think there is a good chance they may being choosing this route. I found your walk-through soothing in a way.

Just a note that the percent of people giving The Blacklist Season 2 a 5-Star rating on Amazon remains at 83% – exactly the same percent as for Season 1. So, at least in aggregate, the view is still very positive. Most people don’t detect a dropoff in quality. I actually like Season 2 better.

@Hanna The spot after The Voice’s super-high ratings gives a boost to new shows. They are moving The Blacklist to Thursdays because they think it has developed its own strong viewership that will follow it to the new time slot. That lets them use the coveted Monday slot for State of Affairs.

This is where I post my thoughts and reblog stuff from other sites I find interesting or topical, mostly topics from Twitter, Tumblr and blogs. This is probably the closest thing on this blog to a “blog.” Lightly edited. Reverse chronological. Comments are open.
